Sport in Föhrenwald and Waldram
Sports – One Topic, Two Time Periods. Both in the Jewish displaced persons camp Föhrenwald and in the later settlement for expellees in Waldram, physical activity played a central role in fostering a sense of community and a fresh start in daily life.
However, the contexts and motivations were very different in the two time periods. In addition to presenting general physical activities from each era, the multimedia and interactive exhibition also features individual athlete biographies. The focus lies on themes such as sport as a means of survival and as a driving force for integration and tolerance.
In addition to organized physical exercise, the exhibition also sheds light on informal, spontaneous sporting activities. It explores the 1954 FIFA World Cup, sports infrastructure and equipment, as well as the significance of physicality for Holocaust survivors and displaced persons.
